Warnerbus Helps The Heroes|
Warnerbus recently delivered a bespoke designed, wheelchair accessible minibus to The Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre (DMRC) Headley Court, Leatherhead, which was paid for and donated by the Charity Help for Heroes.
The specially adapted minibus was designed after careful liaison with the Help for Heroes’ team to ensure that recovering servicemen could travel in the utmost comfort and safety whilst seated or in a wheelchair. As well as offering tremendous discounts to the Charity, Warnerbus approached its key suppliers who also agreed to provide essential equipment at a dramatically reduced price for the Charity.
The minibus will be used to transport wounded heroes as they progress with their rehabilitation - something that had previously been difficult due to lack of wheelchair access. The majority of patients are wheelchair-bound so the new vehicle will give much wider flexibility for longer field trips.

The new minibus was designed by Andrew Wallis, Production Director of Warnerbus who also played a key role during the construction of the vehicle. Andrew stated, “I was delighted to hear that Help For Heroes had selected Warnerbus to build their new minibus for The DMRC. It is a highly specialised vehicle consisting of 14 M2 tested Cogent seats, an Unwin Innotrax flooring system and access for up to 5 wheelchairs. For additional comfort on those cooler days, Webasto installed a heating system in the rear of the minibus. An extra wide Ratcliff under floor tail-lift was also fitted, to aid the serviceman with their access into the vehicle. Andrew added, "We were very proud to help such a deserving Charity and express our sincere thanks to our suppliers for their generosity to Help For Heroes.”
Captain Dean Shenton from Headley Court describes what a difference the transport will make: “The DMRC is very grateful for the continuing support given by Help for Heroes, this time in the form of an adapted minibus. The minibus will be particularly useful for transporting patients to welfare and recreational activities that complement their on-going rehabilitation.”
Bryn Parry CEO and Co-founder of Help for Heroes said, “H4H is all about ‘doing your bit’ and the minibuses will make a real difference, allowing patients to participate in a wide range of activities on their road to recovery. On behalf of all those who will benefit I’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved.”
The delivery of the new minibus coincides with Warnerbus winning a British Chambers of Commerce Award for the third consecutive Year – this year the Company has been recognised for its outstanding customer care, winning The Regional Excellence in Customer Service Award. Andrew Wallis added ‘It has been an absolute honour working with HFH from the early design stages to finalising the minibus. The delivery to Headley Court was a very positive experience, and then to hear that we had won this major Award was the icing on the cake! Naturally, we will stay in touch with Headley Court and continue to offer them an exceptional service.’
